Toru Dutt was an Indian poet who wrote in English and French. She was born on March 4, 1856, in Calcutta, India. She studied French in England and was living in Cambridge. Apart from knowing English and French, she also learned Sanskrit. She died on august 30, 1877, in Calcutta, India, of consumption.
In her life she wrote many poems, which gained their popularity after her death, being published by her father in London and Paris.
This book poems written in English, divided into two parts. The first part of the book contains long poems about the ancient legends of India. The second part represents a collection of her miscellaneous poems which are influenced by her journeys in Europe.
