Belchite was abandoned after a fierce battle during the Spanish Civil War.  It is a monument to the high price of war on ordinary civilians whose lives were devastated after their town was destroyed.  The town today is nothing but a ghost town, slowly crumbling back into the red dust that surrounds this area of Spain.  The magnificent churches are falling down and the skies can be see where there were once vaulted ceilings and domes.  This book captures the beauty of the desolated town, and the silence that has fallen upon it.
