G. A. Henty's classic novel of adventure in Ancient Egypt aimed at the younger audience is presented here.
The entire book takes place at the height of the Egyptian civilisation, in around 1250 BC. We follow Amuba, a young man whose father is dramatically killed in battle. Taken prisoner by the opposing force, Amuba is carried back to the Egyptian kingdom alongside his friend and charioteer Jethro.
When the pair arrive, they are fortunate enough to be assigned as servants to Amuba, a highly ranked priest. However all is not as is would seem within the priestly household, and it is up to Amuba and Jethro to investigate a conspiracy which has the potential to upset the delicate balance of power in Egypt.
The author G. A. Henty was a British war correspondent, and had travelled through North Africa during his career, as well as much of Europe. It was these tours of foreign lands which helped spur his secondary profession of author: throughout his life he penned dozens of historical fiction novels, which would typically involve youngsters caught up in times of upheaval or adversity.
