We’ve all grown up listening to fairytales from authors such as the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen. We were told stories of villains and heroes, redemption, and good prevailing over evil. Nowadays, we’ve come full circle and those fairytales we enjoyed as children are being remade into modern-day classics.

That’s where author of Fairytales Redeemed, Janell Michael, believes we as women have gotten it all wrong with some of the messages communicated by these fairytales. For instance, with Snow White, we learned we should look to a mirror to find our worth, rather than looking to Jesus.

This ultimately leaves us with the question: What would happen if we offered forgiveness and reconciliation to the worst characters in the fairytales we grew up with? How would it change their lives? To answer the question, Janell Michael began writing her own versions of classic fairytales. Each one took her down a different path, but they all share a common theme: redemption.

What would happen if those heroes or heroines went

back and forgave those who treated them wrongly?

Sometimes, we forget Jesus laid down His life for all of mankind. He didn’t come for just the heroes or good guys in our stories. He came for the lost and the damaged, the hurting and weak, and the heroes and good guys too.

Jesus chose to speak to the people of His day in parables. He took the everyday things He knew people could relate to help them understand the truth within the Bible. Author Janell Michael has taken classic fairytales and turned them into something women today could relate to and understand in this creative group or individual devotional.
