The Galapagos Islands, an archipelago of 19 islands in the Pacific Ocean, are a remote part of Ecuador. They are located 625 miles to the west of the mainland in South America. The islands are known for their wildlife which was an inspiration for the “Theory of Natural Selection” by Charles Darwin. Today the Galapagos are visited by natural historians from all over the world who seek the same inspiration as the great man did all those years ago during the 19th century.
