MR. JUSTICE BLATCHFORD delivered the opinion of the court. This is an action at law, brought in a court of the state of Pennsylvania and removed into the Circuit Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, by the firm of J. H. Wiegmann & Son, against the collector of customs for the District of Philadelphia, to recover moneys alleged to have been illegally exacted by him as duties on imported merchandise. After a trial before a jury, the plaintiffs had a judgment for $55.29, and the defendant has brought a writ of error. The record contains the following statement of the result of the trial:
