How can you save someone who is already dead? 

Beth O'Malley desperately needs the answer to this question, not a question an ordinary teenager has to grapple with – but then, Beth O'Malley is not an ordinary teenager.  She has a unique gift:  Instead of just looking at a photograph she can enter it, emerging invisibly at the exact moment the photograph was taken.

At first her ability is only an amusement, an entry into beautiful and interesting places but when she befriends a reclusive classmate with his own secrets to protect, they begin exploring more risky photographs linked with unsolved conspiracies in a private game to solve them. An exhilarating game. 

Until her gift begins to change.

With no explanation, Beth starts becoming visible on her travels into photographs. No longer an unseen, unobtrusive observer; she finds herself fully present in the past, able to interact with those she encounters. Her very presence in the past changes history, a dangerous vulnerability, but it also gives her an incredible opportunity. No longer limited to observing history, she now has the capacity to re-write it. 

But should she? 

'In and Out of Time' is a fantasy mystery exploring obsession, loss, acceptance and courage.  Not just a quest for justice, it is also a gentle tale of love between a girl and a boy, and a mother and a daughter.
