Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc was an Anglo-French writer and historian. He was one of the most productive writers in England in the early twentieth century. He was a well-known writer, poet, satirist, orator, sailor, soldier, man of letters, and political activist.

In his life, he wrote many poems, essays, non-fiction literature and travel writings. But, he was best-known by his humorous, comic verses for children, and his religious poetry.

This book belongs to the group of his comic poems for children, along with his Bad Childs Book of Beasts & A Moral Alphabet. Similar to the, this book also represents a collection of short poems about animals that gives a different and very interesting description of the animals in our world. The verses are really funny and filled with imagination, giving humorous advices to children. It seems like they make fun of some morality lesson for children from the late 18th and early 19th century.
