Sludge is everywhere in our lives, and it comes in many forms. It can be economic, such as when a bank forces a loan on a person who cannot afford it, or it can be public health related, such as when a hospital requires a patient to fill out an application before they can receive treatment.

Sludge is anything that separates people from what they want. It can be anything from waiting in line, to reporting burdens, to travel requirements, to administrative burdens.
