Tradition and Innovation in Korean Art

Descripción editorial

Essays based on a series of free public lectures offered at the Museum between October 2013 and January 2014. The presenters included Charlotte Horlyck, lecturer in Korean art and archaeology, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; Kim Lena, professor emerita of Korean art and Buddhist art, Hongik University, Seoul; and Yi Song-mi, professor emerita of art history, Academy of Korean Studies, Seoul. Their texts offer a broader understanding of the historical context of the featured artworks, exploring such topics as Buddhist sculpture, arts of the Goryeo period (918–1392), and illustrated royal documents of the Joseon period (1392–1910). Accompanying audio guides, recorded by the authors, explore key works from the NMK collection in more detail.
