Descripción editorial

Lamplight can have many layers of interpretation - a romantic glow, a soothing comfort, or a predatory penetration. All of these layers interface in the courageous lives of two women, Tanya and Inge.

Set against the brutality and destruction of WW2, Inge, who had been raised in the peaceful, Austrian village of Guttenwald, discovers that her life makes many extraordinary demands of her. She is led to explore her own courage and turns the tragedies of war into new beginnings.

Tanya, a young doctor, has lived in Vienna all her life, but has known the loss of both her parents. Her only brother, Franzi is also killed, leaving behind his beautiful wife Resla and their two daughters Inge and Eline. Tanya draws this family into intrigue, to save the life of her Jewish lover, Johann. She makes a journey of conscience from loyalty to her homeland, arriving at new insights into humanity and her future.

Guttenwald becomes a base for despatching food supplies to the Wehrmacht during the war and Oberleutnant Emil Friedman is in charge. The passion between this soldier and his love, Inge, is nourished by their meetings in the shadows of the old village gas lamp.

Interrogation lamps and the headlights of armoured cars bring danger, violence and death to Vienna, where Tanya struggles for the survival of her love for Johann.

Lamplight, in a foreign home among the canefields, is where tragedy, love and adventure has finally led Inge.

The story of these two women spans Europe in crisis and extends to their post-war lives in faraway lands of Bolivia and Australia.
The story tells of love which endures through some of the worst times in history.
