"Bhagat Singh one of the most prominent revolutionaries of India enhanced the dormant national feelings of his countrymen. He went to the gallows with a smile; when he was charged and convicted for assassinating John Saunders. Hanged on March 23; 1931; he is regarded as Shaheed which means “martyr”.
His activities as a revolutionary started in college after Mahatma Gandhi suspended the non-cooperative movement.Evading marriage he went to Lahore where he came in contact with other prominent revolutionaries such as Chandrashekhar Azad and became an active participant.Bhagat Singh along with Batukeshwar Dutt volunteered to throw bombs in the assembly and court arrest. Sukh Dev; Raj Guru and Bhagat Singh were hanged despite appeals by Indian leaders.
