Bayleigh is trapped in the darkness of her own mind, and within a controlling government run program claiming to help her. Bayleigh gave up hope of ever leaving the control of the program or escaping the watchful eyes of her counsellor. With an illness that holds her captive in a sharp schedule, the program isolates her. Leaving her valuable to the black magic of a past world. When she feels that life could not get any worse, she sees a ghost; a woman who seems to have her heart set on tormenting her. Drawn deeper into her depression, Bayleigh finds she is not only fighting for her sanity, but against a higher power.

The year is 1485 and Henry Tudor has just won the English throne. With his reign comes uncertainty, and a strange sickness which plagues England. Saskia lives with her husband, his child from a previous marriage and their two children. They live as peasants and work hard in their Lords fields to survive. When her husband is summoned away from her to join the Northern uprising, the unthinkable happens- her husband is killed.

Saskia finds she is left a victim to the cruelty of the world, for a woman living on her own is never safe. Tormented by visions of another world, and by the ghosts she had loved in this one, Saskia turns to the magic of pagan ways. With evil ambition and misplaced loyalty, she finds an escape from the stake. Although that escape is in the future, stealing the life of an innocent girl - Bayleigh.
