History of the Incas

This book presents a rare manuscript and it is one of the original sources of information regarding the pre-Conquest history of the Incas, their mythology, the chronology of their existence, traditions, giving a detailed view of the festivals, ceremonies and religious beliefs. Also, it provides a detailed view of the origins of the Incas, the system of their empire, land division, biographical sketches of rulers and much more.

In this book, you will also find about the events that lead to the execution of a young Incan prince and the execution itself. However, what is of great interest to students of South American cultures is the lexicon of Quichua word and a list of names of places.

In order to write this book, the author, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, gathered the Spanish natives and those who had witnessed the fall of the Empire of the Incas. He traveled widely and interviewed people who were members of the royal Inca families and the few Spanish conquistadors who still live in Cuzco.
