Realizing he has a problem in his relationship with women, Jack Dalton goes to Dr. Miriam Osborne for counseling. With her help he gains insight into his problem--his ties to his parents--and becomes a better person. When his bike collides with a car, his personal growth, however, suffers a setback; for, he reverts back to his old behavior, insulting and mocking Vanessa Conrad, the driver of the auto.
Later, regretting his actions, he tries to make amends and, in doing so, falls in love with her. There is, however, one big obstacle in the way of her returning his love in kind--Richard Donovan, an arrogant, ambitious politician, who just happens to be her fiancé.
Hell-bent on climbing the political ladder and becoming mayor, he makes a misstep which involves a sexual escapade with one of his campaign workers. Not only does his attempt to cover it up make it worse but it also costs him his life. Displaying patience and understanding, Jack helps Vanessa to cope with misfortune and adversity.
