Magic Days

Glenn Lockwood has made a new friend, a man by the name of Vernon Hudspeth. Today Vernon is seventy. Tomorrow he'll be sixty, and fifty the day after. Who knows how this is happening? Who knows why? Maybe these are just magic days, when impossible wishes are granted, dying loves are restored, and hints are everywhere that the cosmos is a far grander thing than anyone can imagine.
