Reviews

Watching Through the Day is an exquisite closer look at all that flies, creeps, weaves and floats about the Australian bush, backyard and seaside, a visual sensual feast that satisfies both nature-lovers and those with a fondness for detail.

– Dimity Powell, Managing Editor, Kids Book Review

Follow the journey of a budding photographer as he captures the antics of our beloved fauna going about their day. Soldier crabs run in the hot sun. Wagtail dances chirps and prances. Full colour spreads give a close up view of each wonderful creature with the story being told in simple rhyming text. A lovely introduction to the wonders of our land.

– Jackie Hosking, Editor, Pass It On

Watching through the Day captures Australia’s wildlife at play. You’ll find pippis poking out of the sand; a magpie feeding its baby, and much more. The artwork by Nandina Vines is so sweet, refreshing and dreamy, picking up the beauty and colours in Nature that Australians are so lucky to enjoy.

Julie Thorndyke

Julie loves to spend each summer at a quiet beach-side town north of Sydney. It is an area rich in native wildlife. Although most Australian animals are nocturnal and elusive during the daylight hours, sometimes Julie and her family will encounter a hungry goanna on the bush track behind the house, spot a koala high up in a gum tree, or meet a dingo in the sand dunes. One memorable morning, a python caught a pigeon on their roof and swallowed it whole for breakfast!

Nandina Vines

Nandina is an Illustrator living in the Hunter Valley, Australia. Her work is influenced by the bushland that surrounds her home and by the coast where she grew up. Australian native flora and fauna feature in her work along with a love of illustrating her horses, cats and dogs. Primarily a digital based artist, Nandina has an eye for detail, which she combines with a painterly style to create scenes that make her work come alive.
