BQ78 Bush, Trumpet Players Play 

Irving R. Bush has been associated with nearly every phase of the musical profession. Born and reared in Los Angeles, he received his B. A. and M. A. degrees, cum laude, from California State University, Los Angeles. Playing trumpet with many name bands and orchestras including Harry James, Dave Rose and Nelson Riddle, he was for three years Nat “King” Cole’s personal first trumpet player. 


Mr. Bush played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra from 1962 and in 1983 became the Orchestra Personnel Manager. During this time he was also a member of the faculty at the University of Southern California and California State University, Los Angeles, in addition to performing with Hollywood’s top recording orchestras.


The purpose of this text with illustrations is to help bridge the gap between the student and the music. The nonmusical aspects of trumpet performance include everything except the music (i.e., breathing, embouchure, attitude, endurance, practice, etc.). Some systems of playing seldom get to perform meaningful music. Other methods mainly deal with the music and neglect the nonmusical essentials of trumpet playing. The aim of this book is to assist in bringing the technique, study and music together as one process.
