Living in the herd mentality of 1957, not only are Breed and his friends treated like the scum of the earth, a child molesting psychopath wants to cut their ears off. If they do nothing, they will be imprisoned in Traptown’s drudgery and live in fear for the rest of their lives. Retaining humor and a vitality otherwise lacking in their slum neighborhood, they build a junk boat, go hurling into the night, and land in the paradise of Shell Island. Here, these loveable characters want to close the bridge to the cyclical sameness of violence and stampede into a new future, but river gangs, crooked cops, and sickos, who use puppies for baseballs block their way.
