Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a novel about four sisters who experience the ups and downs of life while their father is away fighting in the American Civil War. 

Alcott grew up around Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau because of her transcendentalist parents.
