Miss Santa Claus of the Pullman

Famous children's fiction author Annie Fellows Johnston penned Miss Santa Claus of the Pullman in 1913. Telling the story of Santa Claus' wife and partner, the novel takes readers behind the scenes at Santa's workshop at the North Pole. Santa's wife was first mentioned in "A Christmas Legend," a short story written by James Rees in 1849. Since then, many books and short stories have depicted the woman as kind, gentle and giving, much like her famous husband. Historically, Mrs. Claus' real name has never been decided, although she has been given names like A.B., Goody, Jessica and Gertrude.
