Mbanaso was excited to finally leave his village; he’d been longing to explore. He had never hunted so when his cousin Nnamdi suggested they go check their traps, he jumped at the opportunity without a second thought.

 

The young hunters set off deep into the jungle, eyes wide and ready to prey; the only predators seeking game, or so they thought.

 

He awakens dazed and bound; yearning for the soothing sound of his mother’s voice. Instead he finds himself, lonely and scared, then eventually, being auctioned at a market. Fate dealt those young boys a heavy blow.

 

Offspring is a three part series that embodies the depth of courage, ambition, fate and the power of sheer will. William, descendant of Mbanaso narrates this epic tale as told to him by his Grandfather. We recount the events that shaped, sculpted and moulded Mbanaso from slavery to freedom, to his monopolization of the palm oil trade routes in the Niger Delta.
