Desmur, the Ombudsman of Sorlandent, appears in council and restates the prospect that the planet Sorlandent will one day be devoured by Theos, their solar star. This well known fact ends with Desmur and his family kidnapped. They are taken to another continent where they become forced labor in a barren wasteland. The worksite is the means for the High Lexor to instigate the secret building of a emense starship destined to take a select group to another world where the planet's seed can survive. The ship is given the name Tandori.
As the story develops, Desmur and his friend Claymore, although treated with distain, are beneficial to their friends as well as their captors. As time passes, Desmur wins the respect of those in the military and aids them. When the Tandori leaves with the unintended crew and passangers, Captain Yancy, commander of the Ousaka, his crew, Desmuir and the military chases them down and takes command of the Tandorii where many of her crew are already dead..Analia and her security force are found in a secure room, confronted, and through negotiations, the crew hands over their High Lexor. Analia resists and is killed.
After a long and perilous journey home, the inhabitents of both the Tandori and Ousaka find their planet in a parilous state of affairs. With determination and resiliance those in charge bring the fighting factions together and make plans to call all the other starships of Sorlandent together and make a joint effort to leave the planet.
When the convoy comes together, they will journey into the cosmos with the support of the Tandori in search of a planet capable of supporting human life.
As a group of older people sit in the lounge thinking about what they are giving up, they decide this journey is not theirs. They will return to Suzaran and populate Vuldaren, the only continent safe to live on, and reside there until their lives come to an end. Theirs is not the generation to give up all that they have known. The purpose of the Tandori was for the young to live out their lives aboard a starship hoping to carry life into the future.

This story is about intrigue, resourcefulness, humor, grief, and unimaginable suffering.
