Publisher Description

One of the great stories of western Canadian history, one which has taken on almost mythic proportions, is the story of the great homestead rush. Hundreds of thousands of settlers moved west, attracted by the lure of free land and the prospect of starting a whole new life. While the saga of homesteading is a tremendous one, it has meant that other stories of the settlement of the West have been largely overlooked. One of those involves the colonization companies which were formed in the early 1880s and which played at least some role in the settling parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
