Publisher Description

On September 11th 2001, New Yorkers gathered at Union Square to post flyers with faces of the missing, offer flowers, walk in silence, and absorb the immensity of the World Trade Center attack. The solemnity of the activities transformed the square into hallowed ground, giving people permission to cry and hug one another there.

This historic collection of forty-nine black-and-white photographs, made by celebrated New York photographer Abraham Menashe, focuses on the emotions of the living, and bears witness to their grief and aspirations in the weeks that followed.

Abraham Menashe also pays homage to the 2,998 people who perished by listing victim's names.
