Later, I get called in by my Data Specialists top management and I am quizzed by my big bosses as to why Cary’s project is in big trouble.
I do a quick review of the project computer code for Cary's project, that Data Specialists has somehow obtained. I discover a few very poor techniques in the computer code that Cary’s project is using. I point out that Cary’s project is using some iterative processes that don’t require a lot of computer storage, but do require a lot of computer execution time. Also Cary’s project is using sub optimal equation evaluations, that result in divide by zero problems.
I am then quizzed about Billy’s work. I point out that Billy's work looks something like what a not very bright first year high school student might produce.
My new Data Specialists top management then point out that Billy has a Masters Degree and is working on a PhD.
I ask, “A PhD in what?”
The answer is, a PhD in business administration.
I say, “You have several MBAs, Master of Business Administration, here at Data Specialists. You don’t use any of them in computer programming work. Why not?”
The answer is, “A Master of Business Administration degree has little application in computer programming.”
I ask, “Then why is the Lozenge Corporation using a Master of Business Administration degree candidate as a computer programmer?”
The answer is, “Good question.”
My review by my Data Specialists top management then ends.
Chapter 2: Danger Along The Path
I have survived my first job, out of school. I got chewed up by politics, but my work skills saved me. My work skills got me out of political hell and into a better second job. I managed to avoid the wage punishment of political hell and I even managed to get a second job with a wage increase. I did lose my girlfriend, Linda.
Thinking things over, I see that my math and computer classes, back in school, were of advantage to me. The liberal arts classes that I took were a dead loss. Then, as I discover, the liberal arts classes that I was forced to take, had a hidden benefit. When I had taken all of the memorizing of lies that I could take, at one time, I would work out physically. Since I am a math, science type guy, I worked out efficiently.
(The Irish shillelagh was and is a walking stick or cane. The original shillelaghs were made of blackthorn wood or of oak wood. A length of wood (such that the walking stick would reach from the ground to a hand at the end of a slightly bent arm) was selected. The wood was then scraped or sanded smooth and placed out of the way, usually in a chimney, to season, that is to remove excess moisture. The Irish then developed the simple walking stick into a deadly weapon, in the hands of a trained user. In some cases, a hole was bored into the top of a shillelagh and then molten lead was poured into the hole, to create a ‘loaded stick’.
Due to the odor of whiskey production, stills were often located in remote areas. To protect the stills against robbers, a trained shillelagh user was often hired to ward off would be robbers. A shillelagh was then sometimes referred to as a ‘whiskey stick’.
My workouts included the use of a metal cane, with the top cut off, and a lead cylinder inserted, held by pins inserted in drilled holes down the shaft of the cane. The top was then reattached, by means of a welded ferrule (with an engine turned finish, to make the ferrule look good.)
My work with my loaded stick developed my upper body muscles, specifically my fast twitch muscles. I could and can move my metal shillelagh at very fast speeds.) I also used leg movement, to develop my lower body muscles’

Lanny, my former Lozenge Corporation Department Manager, having contacted me about coming back to work for the Lozenge Corporation, to no avail, then decides to hire a couple of goons, instead of fucking himself, to show me that a lowly Computer Programmer should not resist the will of a, by damn, Department Manager.
