Blood Feather

A stolen eaglet. A missing ranch hand. And a family with too much to lose.

When a golden eagle chick turns up at a rescue north of Los Angeles, the quiet cowboy who dropped it off doesn't leave his name. Three days later, nobody has seen him, his gear is still under his bunk, and private investigator Nikki Drake is the only one looking.

The trail runs to Aldrich Ranch. A cattle outfit in hard country, with eagle nests on its cliffs and a bank balance that stopped bleeding the year it should have gone under. Nikki and her German Shepherd, Gunner, are welcomed onto the place. The family is friendly, the hired hands are careful, and they show her everything except who she came to find.

Somebody is pulling wild eaglets off those cliffs and selling them overseas, and has killed to keep it quiet. When Nikki rides into the high country with the rancher's wife, they're far from help, on ground that's already hiding one body.

Mysteries with bite. Suspense with heart.
