Clarissa Harlowe is an eighteen-year-old virtuous, beautiful young lady who is loved and admired by everyone around her. Receiving a piece of her grandfather’s property, she becomes a victim of her family’s greed and will to become aristocrats. They are willing to sacrifice her, because of her wealth, and marry her with a rich, but horrible Roger Solmes. But, she doesn’t want to marry him and starts corresponding with Richard Lovelace. When her family starts suspecting that there is something between them two, forbid Clarissa to have any relation to Lovelace, who is hated by Harlowe family. Despair to run from the marriage with Solmes, she runs away with Lovelace and becomes his victim. Being madly in love with Clarrisa, he is decided to have her, so he drugs her and rapes her. After that event, her life goes downward. Her soul is broken and her happiness is gone forever.

This story has nine volumes, all of them following the life of the young Clarissa and her tragic destiny. This volume continues her story, presenting the letters between Clarissa and her best friend Anna Howe and the letters between Lovelace and his friends Belford. In this book we follow the conspire of Lovelace to overcome Clarissa’s virtue.
