HUNTER, J. The defendant, Jerome Williams, was convicted by a jury of attempted murder. Ind. Code § 35-42-1-1 (Burns 1979 Repl.); Ind. Code § 35-41-5-1 (Burns 1979 Repl.). He was sentenced to a period of twenty years in the Indiana Department of Correction. In his direct appeal, he presented the following issues for our review:
