FACTS. The plaintiff-respondent, Doyle M. Payne, individually and as the special administrator of the estate of his deceased wife,
Gladys B. Payne, sued for the personal injuries his wife sustained when she attempted to commit suicide by setting fire to
her clothing with matches while a patient at the Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital. The action was brought against the following
defendants: Milwaukee Sanitarium Foundation, Inc., a Wisconsin corporation doing business as Milwaukee Sanitarium Foundation
and the Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital; Steven V. Hansen, M.D., Mrs. Payne's attending psychiatrist; Morton Josephson, M.D.,
the clinical and medical director of the hospital; and the Milwaukee Sanitarium Clinic Chartered, a Wisconsin service corporation
which staffed the hospital and of which Drs. Hansen and Josephson were members.
