Rattlesnake Road

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY 12/07/2021

This sexy, suspenseful romance from McKinney (the Steele Shadows series) finds recovering alcoholic Grey Dalton working to rebuild her life after suffering a miscarriage, losing her job, and leaving her philandering husband. A poverty-stricken childhood with an alcoholic mother left Grey determined to have money—and after 10 years of marriage, she realizes this was the main motivation behind her partnership with her wealthy, uncaring husband. After their separation, she's happy to trade in busy New York City for the tranquil Berry Springs, where she meets the gruff and sexy mechanic Declan Montgomery. She's also being wooed by wealthy developer Lucas Covington, who's out to take over the small town's land, and as she struggles with trauma and sobriety, she makes some bad decisions—but Declan's always there to help her get back on track. Meanwhile, Declan's fighting demons of his own, as many of the townsfolk still pin a long-unsolved murder on him. Nothing comes easy for this pair of kindred spirits, but as they face the hard truths of their lives they get plenty of opportunities to prove their loyalty to each other. McKinney keeps it real, expertly balancing internal struggles and outside conflict while weaving tough situations into a beautiful love story. (Self-published)
