Refulgent Spray continues on from Gratification Zero. The yacht is more involved in this story.

Refulgent Spray is set during the Cold War, and features Cold War paranoia. The lead character is Augusta. Her uncle brought her up in West Berlin after her parents had died. We follow her journey through university and into the wider world. She works for MI6 after leaving university because she has a strong desire for an end to the Cold War, for Democracy and for personal reasons explained early in the story.

Augusta meets Lenka and her rich, eccentric British husband who own the Refulgent Spray after the Second World War. Augusta and Lenka become best friends, then Lenka gives the Spray to Augusta – Augusta's MI6 mission is to be Lenka's bodyguard. Lenka is a Soviet Union defector, and she is holding important information that is very useful to the West.

Augusta's commander is the belligerent Colonel Smith-Grant who spends most of his time reprimanding Augusta.
