The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)
During World War II, four siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy—are sent to the English countryside for safety. While exploring the old house, Lucy steps through a wardrobe into Narnia, a magical land frozen in “always winter but never Christmas” under the tyranny of the White Witch. Eventually all four children enter Narnia, where Edmund is lured into betraying his family by the Witch’s promises. They meet Aslan, the great lion and true king, who sacrifices himself to save Edmund but rises again, breaking the Witch’s power and fulfilling an ancient prophecy. The children lead Narnia’s creatures into battle, overthrow the Witch, and are crowned kings and queens. After ruling for years, they return through the wardrobe to England, where only moments have passed. Blending myth, adventure, and Christian symbolism, the story celebrates courage, redemption, and the triumph of good over evil.
