Wyllard's Weird

A young Frenchwoman is found in a Cornish gorge beside the railway, fallen or flung from a moving train, and nobody in the valley can say who she was. Suspicion settles on Bothwell Grahame, who will not account for his movements rather than compromise a married woman, and Edward Heathcote, a lawyer whose sister is engaged to him, goes to Paris to learn the girl's name and the man who met her at Charing Cross. Braddon builds the case backwards from the body, and the answer lies much closer to Penmorval than anyone there suspects.
