Publisher Description

In her autobiographical Yûn-nan, South of the Clouds, Gladys Muir recounts her life working together with her husband Frank as Canadian missionaries in remote villages of Yunnan province in Southwest China during and after World War II.

In addition to narratives from everyday life near Dali and Kunming, this book also gives a first hand description of historical events from this tumultuous time in China’s history, including the wartime attacks by the Japanese Air Force on Kunming and the American “Flying Tigers” who fended them off, the changes to daily life for both Chinese and westerners as communism spread into the area after the war, and the family’s dramatic exit from China when it became impossible for foreign aid workers to remain.

This e-book edition has been produced using the text and photographs from the original 1987 print edition.

All proceeds from the sale of this book go to the Wrinch Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization providing Health, Education, Social and Housing Programs and Services in the Hazelton, BC area.
