Intelligence is knowledge of the battlespace and of the threat forces in that battlespace. Intelligence has two objectives: to reduce uncertainty by providing accurate, timely, and relevant knowledge about the threat and the surrounding environment, and to assist in protecting friendly forces (to include Department of Defense [DOD] personnel, family members, resources, facilities and critical information) through counterintelligence (CI).
