When patients disappear and die at a remote hospital, Bella joins Jax Hastings, her childhood friend and potential suitor, in digging for evidence. The receptionist going missing adds to the urgency. Past cases have put the pair in harm's way, but this time, they are in more danger than ever because both go undercover—Jax as a patient and Bella as an employee.

Being inside the sanatorium reinforces the complexity of the mystery and the perils of their task. She is his only lifeline to the outside world and the team of lawmen working with them.
