Where the Chinese originated?

The invention of writing was an epoch-making event in the history of mankind. With writing, people could record the events that occurred in their time accurately and in detail. We call this period a historical era. How-ever, the invention of writing is a recent event, occurring not more than four or five thousand years ago. Before this, mankind still had a long history and we call this the prehistoric period.
文字的发明,是人类历史中划时代的大事。有了文字,人类可以正确而详尽地记录当时发生的事,我们称这段时期为历史时代。但是,文字的发明是很晚近的事,为时至多不过四、五千年,在这之前,人类仍有一段漫长的历史,我们称之为史前时代。


In China, the use of writing to record events began in the Shang dynasty (c. 1500-1000 B.C.). The history of the Hsia dynasty (c. 2000-1500 B.C.), which preceded the Shang dynasty, is partly reliable and partly doubtful. Even earlier, the exploits of the Yellow Emperor, Yao, and Shun all fall within the sphere of legend or prehistory.
在中国,利用文字记事,是从商代开始。所以,商代以前、夏代的历史,就疑信参半了。再往前,如黄帝、尧、舜的事迹,就属于史前或传说中时代的范围了。
