Dinner is served with a side of danger — can Pru and Pip solve the case before it's too late?

When assistant librarian Pru gets an urgent call for help from her best friend Pip, she doesn't hesitate. Pip's working a shift at a local pop-up restaurant, and one of the servers has mysteriously cancelled, leaving her in a pinch.

The night is supposed to be special: Joss, a rising star artist, is debuting his first exhibition, with a menu designed around his art, including vibrant, round red fruit featured in both his paintings and the dishes. But the evening takes a dark turn when a diner suddenly collapses ... face-down in the soup.

Now, it's up to Pru, Pip, and Pip's fluffy sidekick, Teddy (a lovable Coton de Tulear), to step in and figure out what went wrong. Was it poison? And who would want to sabotage Joss's big night?

As the investigation heats up, the list of suspects grows. There's Sylvia, the mysterious gallery owner, Roman, a jealous rival artist, Callie, the waitress who didn't turn up, and Chef Mark, the quiet but talented cook. With so many people in the mix, Pru and Pip have their work cut out for them!

To make matters even more complicated, a string of car thefts has rocked their quiet town of Gold Leaf Valley, and Jesse, Pru's detective boyfriend, is pulled into both investigations. Could the two crimes be connected?

With Pip's fond memories of reading Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden novels, she encourages Pru to keep investigating. But when they finally uncover the shocking truth, will they be able to escape in time?
