Descripción editorial

Flixton, Urmston and Davyhulme, in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, form a fascinating and historically diverse district. Flixton is home to the ancient church of St Michael, established around 1190, and Flixton House, built in 1806 and the former home of the Worthington-Wright family. Western Road, Flixton, was home to Doctor Robert Moffat (1795 - 1883), whose daughter, Mary, married famous missionary Doctor David Livingstone. Urmston is the birthplace of John Collier (1709 - 86), artist, satirist and dialect poet, also known as Tim Bobbin. He was born on Church Road near Urmston Old Hall, which is no longer standing. Davyhulme was home to Charles Ewart from 1830, a sergeant in the Scots Greys, who lived for the last sixteen years of his life on Bent Lanes. In more recent times, the district has played host to The Beatles, who appeared at the Urmston Show in 1963.
