How to Think and Learn in the Humanities

Descripción editorial

“In June 2017, a team of scholars and educators from ten disciplines assembled at the National Humanities Center in Durham, NC. From major universities and small liberal arts colleges, large public school districts and small independent schools, this team represented experienced and established views of humanities education. Our goal was to put the scholar and the educator in conversation with one another to identify the key qualities and practices of each discipline, considering what questions are asked, what tools and resources are invaluable, and what processes occur. Broadly speaking, these humanists share many of the same approaches and goals in their teaching, but we quickly realized that individual disciplines have unique sets of questions, assumptions, and steps to understanding.

“This group embraced an ambitious task: to articulate and make visible their ways of thinking and teaching in their respective disciplines. Each chapter is intended to advance our understanding of the processes of learning by offering insights, examples, and best practice moments that speak to the nature of each discipline. Created to be accessible and flexible in order to meet the needs of educators and classrooms at all levels, this guide features media and digital content that help clarify and establish fluency for each discipline.”
