Brenda Brown is one of the few lucky girls from the foundling home where she was raised. She has a good job taking care of three children she truly cares for, and she doesn't have to live in the cramped orphanage. But she longs for more. When she hears of an opportunity to go west and be introduced to eligible men, she knows she has to jump at the chance.

Seth Clinkinbeard loves his ranch. It's his heritage, and he cares about nothing more than working it and helping it grow into a huge empire. But when he gets the opportunity to meet single women from back east, he jumps at the chance. The ranch will need someone to run it after he's gone, and that means he needs an heir.

Brenda and Seth meet at the matchmaking event organized by Elizabeth Tandy and Susan Dailey. They speak and decide to marry right away. But will Brenda feel valued with as busy as Seth always is? Or will she simply fade into the background of his life?
