Playing with the Odds

Playing with the Odds explores the world of Tuplets, Polyrhythm and Metric Modulation. It provides a method of counting and vocalizing these rhythmic possibilities by presenting a collection of progressive exercises designed to help the student learn to hear and play these unique rhythms. Study of these exercises will make you aware of the many possible ways these rhythms might be exploited by a drummer or other musicians. Another result of learning these rhythms is the way it improves your perception of Time and Beat Placement and that improvement will really pay off when you play to a recording click track or with a metronome. Learning the rhythms that land in the cracks between the 4/4 based rhythms we all play and use will solidify your time keeping and spark your rhythmic imagination in new ways.
