The decision, process and aftermath associated with ending a committed relationship are enormously complex, disruptive and highly emotional. This process can affect the couple, their children, and everyone they know.

Three circumstances that I’ve not addressed explicitly:
1. While this book is oriented around marriages per se, many chapters apply to ending committed relationships not formalized in the eyes of the law.
2. I discuss the challenges associated with deciding to end a marriage. I recognize that in many instances one partner has made that decision, while the other can only comply. However, the balance of the book can be useful nonetheless.
3. Many couples ending a committed relationship don’t have children.
