Solar Materials Science

Solar radiation can be converted to forms of energy which man finds useful through a number of natural phenomena or by the use of technology. A broad program is underway to understand and exploit the natural phenomena as well as to develop and improve the full range of technologies needed to make solar energy a significant contributor to our national energy supply. One important aspect of the technology development is materials. The purpose of this series is to present an up-to-date report on the status of materials research and development which will play a major role in the more promising approaches to converting solar radiation to other useful energy forms.
