Calloway returns to school after the holiday break, but school is even more difficult, and not academically. Beatrice, the girl he defended, finally acknowledges him in public. Calloway isn't sure what to do. What does it mean? And when she joins them for lunch, Calloway feels even more confused. Does she like him? And if she does, Calloway knows his friends would never approve.


They explore the location of the portal, and by chance, they found an answer. But then they have to decide the next step. Do they cross over or do they tell Weston what they've found?


Hawk's continues his role as Calloway's main tormentor, and Calloway eventually begins to breakdown. He turns to his mentor for help, who always gives him the best guidance. Even the strongest fall in despair, but Calloway keeps his head held high and continues the battle.
