Publisher Description
When human remains are discovered in the forests of regional Victoria, the police are baffled, the locals are shocked, and one group of old friends starts to panic. Their long-held secret is about to be uncovered.
It all began in 1999 when sixteen-year-old Aaron ran away from home, dragging his friends into an unforeseeable chain of events that no one escaped from unscathed.
In The Ledge, past and present run breathlessly, tensely parallel, leading to a cliff-hanger nobody will see coming. This is a mind-bending new novel from the master of the unexpected.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Each week, we select an entertaining Book of the Week for just 99c.
Dual narrative threads run through Christian White’s latest page-turner. The first thread takes us back to 1999, in a quiet Victorian mountain town, where a group of teenage boys stumble into a bad situation after one of them runs away from home. In the second thread, those boys have grown into men, and the remains of a body have been found by police. The interplay between past and present builds the tension as we learn what happened 25 years ago, as well as discovering how those events changed these richly drawn characters. The Ledge is tied up in themes of loyalty, memory and masculinity, but White never forgets to use those beats in service of a psychological thriller containing twists that feel both surprising and inevitable.
