Descripción editorial

This book describes the authors visit to the northern island ports of Orkney, Shetlands, The Faeroes and Iceland and in doing so highlights the significance of these garrisons to the overall strategy of the Battle of the Atlantic.

It provides a good indication of the nature of Iceland, the daily lives of the garrisoned men, the character of the local people and how the occupation of Iceland effected the country.

It also shows a distinction between the Soldiers who played a critical role in preventing invasion but are desperate to see the enemy, as against the RAF who providing an obvious direct assistance to the convoys and thus invaluable service to the Battle of the Atlantic.
