Bristol solicitor, Alistair Duncan, is called in by insurers, to protect their interests, after a foreman is found dead, on a building site, at Shepton Mallet.

Duncan’s investigations throw doubt on the official theory that the dead man was accidently electrocuted. Why had witnesses lied at the inquest? What was the guilty secret of the beautiful and seductive young widow, June Hillyer, a girl with tastes beyond her means? And what claims could she make for damages?
