The Shrieking Pit

In the autumn of 1916, a fashionable seaside hotel on the Norfolk coast becomes the stage for a disturbing spectacle. A handsome young man, seemingly a gentleman and a war veteran, behaves erratically at breakfast—shaking, flushed, and driven to stick a knife into the table. A famous detective and a prominent nerve specialist intervene, but the young man dismisses their concern and vanishes hours later.

The detective’s curiosity is piqued. Why did the young man flee so abruptly? What dark secret was he hiding? The trail leads to a remote and eerie locale known as the Shrieking Pit, where the past refuses to stay buried. As the detective digs deeper, he uncovers a web of deception, fear, and a crime that someone will go to any lengths to conceal.
